We Have Made Fatima a Better Place To Live – Exhibition

During the Regeneration at Fatima Mansions the social housing was first to be built. The balcony of Gemma McKenna’s new apartment presented the perfect opportunity for photo panoramas of the ongoing build to be recorded from.

Today Gemma has lived and worked in this community for 38 years and this exhibition includes sometimes hard, sometimes fantastic memories from Gemma, accompanied by Chris Maguire’s photographs.

Women With Balls

A film made by Fatima’s Women’s Education Group.

Based on the stories and history of Fatima Mansions from 1949 to the mid

1990’s

The group engaged in process call Dig Where You Stand, which was a framework designed and used by the Labour History Museum to gather the stories of women employed in the labour force in the early part century.

A wide variety of women from all ages participated and from this process.

The stories were ones of great hardships coming from the Tenements to the hope of a new beginning in the Fatima Mansions- finally families had their own toilet and owned their front door.

One of the stories was of a women’s football team in 1970’s who struggle to get jerseys, football boots and someone to mind the kids.

The women wanted the freedom of doing something for themselves.

Women with Balls is a short fun film loosely based on this story.

Film Night

Join us for a collection  of short films made by Rialto locals , community groups and individuals. Many were filmed in Rialto.

The collection of shorts will uplift you make you laugh and make you cry.

This is also an invitation for the makers and actors involved in the films to meet up again. The film line up and times up will be published on our social media.

Rialto Community Arts Festival

 ✨ Sound Bath ✨ Sunday 23rd June @ 6.30pm ✨

Relax – Reset – Restore

💜 Wind up your weekend with this deeply soothing and relaxing sound bath. Let your cares just ease and drift away

💜 All you have to do is lie on your back and relax while beautiful sounds are made by instruments played live. Sounds that will bring you to a whole other level of connection and nourishment

💜 St Andrews Community Centre Rialto, Sunday 23rd June 6.30 – 7.30pm, D08 H51F

💜 Places are limited and booking is essential

What is a Sound Bath?

In a sound bath you are ‘bathed’ in the soothing sounds and vibrations of different instruments that are played live in the room.

It is a passive form of meditation – all you have to do is lie back and absorb the sound.

Because the instruments are tuned to different brain waves, they bring about a sense of calm, clarity and peace.

The mind and the body feel relaxed.

When is a Sound Bath not recommended?

Because of the power of the subtle vibrations, there are some circumstances in which a sound bath is not recommended:

– the first trimester of pregancy

– if you have a pacemaker fitted or large metal plates in your body

– if you are sensitive to sound or have sound sensitive epilepsy
